Tupelo players on South Panola game
October 15, 2008 · 4 Comments
Daily Journal sports writer John Wilbert passes along these Tupelo players’ thoughts on their Friday game versus South Panola:
“We’re just going out here ready to play. Everybody’s focused. I think they (South Panola) play off intimidation.”
– Golden Wave senior safety Servantes Kelly.
“To me, it’s just the name that scares everybody.”
– Golden Wave senior Garrian Heard on South Panola’s dominance.
“I want to win it bad. I don’t think they’ll (South Panola secondary) hold all three of us (in check).”
– Golden Wave senior wide receiver Justin Bean on the Wave’s big three receivers: Bean, Chad Bumphis and Garrian Heard.
“I felt pretty good after the game. I felt that we played hard and they just beat us on lucky plays: fake punt and two big fourth-down conversions.”
– Golden Wave senior receiver Justin Bean on last year’s 28-21 playoff loss to South Panola.
“Probably more than likely because we’re going in knowing what to expect. Everybody expects to win and that should be the difference. If we think about it (Friday’s game) as a regular season game, we’ll be all right. Everyone that plays in (Division) 1-5A has athletes.”
– Golden Wave senior receiver Chad Bumphis on this year’s game likely being Tupelo’s best shot in a long time of beating South Panola.
